Ramana Maharshi says, "There is no creation, no dissolution, no path, no goal, no free will, no destiny". 라나마 마하리쉬께서 말씀하셨다. "그 어떤 창조도 사멸도 없고 가야할 길도, 도달해야 할 목표도 없으며 자유의지도 운명이라는 것도 없습니다." Once you accept that nothing happens according to your will, the question "whose will prevails?" is irrelevant. 일단 당신의 의지에 따라 일어나는 일은 아무것도 없다는 것을 받아들이기만 한다면 "누구의 의지로 이 세상이 돌아가는가?" 하는 질문은 무의미하다. Once I accept that all that happens is God's will why should I be concerned about God? In the end there is nothing. 일어나는 모든 일은 신의 의지라는 것을 이미 받아들였다면 내가 신의 일에 내가 계속 관여해야 할 이유가 없다. 결국 거기에는 아무 것도 없다. All there is, is the illusion. Something which does not exist all the time is an illusion. 세상에 존재하는 모든 것은 환상이다. 그것은 내내 존재하지 못하는 것은 모두 환상이기 때문이다. The manifestation does not exist in deep sleep. 142 Manifestation does not have an existence of its own. 드러난 것은 그 자체로는 존재성을 가지고 있지 않다. It depends on consciousness of the person observing it. 드러난 것은 그것을 관찰하는 사람의 의식에 의존하여 존재하고 있다. Manifestation is as you interpret it. 드러난 것은 당신이 그것에 의미를 부여했기에 존재하는 것이다. Each person interprets manifestation according to his programming. 모든 사람들은 예정된 그 자신만의 학습 계획에 따라 저마다의 방식으로 사물에 의미를 부여한다. Manifestation is only in the mind. Manifest and the unmanifest are not two. 드러난 것은 오직 마음 속에서만 존재하는 것이다. 드러남과 드러나지 않음은 둘이 아니다. I-I and I am are not two. I-I has not created the 'I AM'. I-I has become the 'I AM'. I-I is just a concept. '나-나'와 내가 존재한다는 둘이 아니다. '나-나'의 상태는 '나는 내가 있다는 것이다'에서 창조되어진 것은 아니다. '나-나'의 상태는 '나는 내가 있다는 것이다'이 되는 것이다. '나-나'란 단지 개념일 뿐이다. 역자주: 여기서 '나-나'로 번역한 'I-I'는 '생각하는 나'와 '진정한 나'의 합일상태를 의미하는 것이라 생각된다. We are only concerned with the 'I AM'. 우리는 오직 '나는 내가 있다는 것이다'에 관련되어 있을 뿐이다. Buddha says, Nirvana is samsara. Nirvana did not create samsara. Nirvana has become samsara. 부처님께서는 열반은 곧 윤회라고 말씀하셨다. 그리고 열반이 윤회를 창조하지는 않았지만 열반의 어떤 속성이 윤회가 되었다 하셨다. Ramesh says, 'I AM' is present when the "me" is not there. Your wanting disturbs the peace which is always there. 늘 거기에 있는 당신의 평화를 방해하는 것은 당신의 욕망인 것이다. The final acceptance can only happen. The non-happening of the final acceptance itself has to be accepted. 오직 궁극적인 허용만이 일어날 뿐이다. 궁극적인 허용의 일어나지 않음, 그 자체도 받아들여진 것이다. Understand that what happens is not in your control. 그 어떤 일이 일어나든 일어나야만 하는 일은 당신의 힘으로는 통제할 수 없다는 것을 이해하도록 하라. The ultimate thing to do is to accept the non-acceptance. The final acceptance happens when you truly don't care whether Enlightenment happens or not. 최종적으로 해야 할 일은 그 어떤 거부함도 없이 모든 일을 받아들이는 것이다. 깨달음이 일어나든 말든 당신이 진정으로 상관하지 않는다면 궁극적인 허용이 나타날 것이다. Ramesh says, You may call the acceptance of the inability to accept as contentment or surrender. 라메쉬는 말한다. 당신은 만족 또는 포기 둘 중 하나를 선택하는 방식으로 자신의 무능함을 수락하게 될 것이다.
144 The experience of just being happens when the "me" is absent. 지금 이순간에 그냥 존재하는 체험은 내가 존재하지 않을 때 일어난다. These moments occur for everyone. The feeling arises. In those few moments one of two things happens. 이러한 존재의 체험 순간이 일어나면 사람들에게는 느낌이 따라 일어나고 순간적으로 마음에서 둘 중 하나의 생각이 일어난다. If the programming is to seek spirituality the thinking mind says, "That was good. I want more of it". 만일 조건화된 마음이 정신적인 것을 구하고 있었다면 생각하는 마음은 이렇게 말할 것이다. "좋았어, 이런 체험을 조금 더하길 원해." If the programming is not to seek spirituality the thinking mind says, "Why are you wasting time? Do something". 만일 조건화된 마음이 정신적인 것을 구하고 있지 않았다면 생각하는 마음은 이렇게 말할 것이다. "내가 왜 이런 짓에 쓸데없는 시간을 보내고 있지? 다른 일이나 해야지." So, what is to be done? 그렇다면 어떻게 해야만 할까? Leave the experience alone. The "me" wants it again. '나라는 에고'는 그 체험을 다시 원할 것이다. 그 체험을 홀로 내버려 두라. If you are able to, let go of the experience and forget it. 당신에게 이렇게 하는 것이 가능하다면 체험이 흘러가도록 내버려두라. 그리고 잊어버려라. Ramesh says, If the experience of just being is allowed to come and go, without taking delivery, it is likely to happen more frequently. 라메쉬는 말한다. 지금 이 순간에 그냥 존재하는 것이 허용되었고 더 자주 일어날 것 같다면 받아들임 없이 그 체험이 오고 가게 그냥 내버려 두라.
145 An individual identifies with the actions that happen through the bodymind organism due to Divine Hypnosis. 몸과 마음이라는 유기체를 통해 일어나는 행동을 통한 개인적인 동일시는 신성한 최면에서 기인한 것이다. God alone can remove the hypnosis which He was created. 오직 신만이 만물이 처음 창조되었던 상태로 그 최면에서 벗어나게 할 수 있다. All you can do is, pray to God to remove the hypnosis. 당신이 할 수 있는 것이란 그 최면에서 벗어나게 해달라고 신에게 기도하는 일 뿐이다. But, you don't do that. 하지만 당신은 그렇게 하지 않고 있다. You think you can do some sadhana and ultimately overcome maya. 당신은 어떤 영적인 수행을 함으로써 마침내 마야를 극복할 수 있을 것이라고 생각하고 있다. Only one in thousands is seeking the removal of Divine Hypnosis. 오직 천명 중에 한 명만이 신성한 최면을 제거하는 법을 추구한다. The seeking to remove hypnosis is itself God's grace. 최면을 재거하기 위한 추구, 그 자체가 신의 은총이다. Seeking is happening by God's grace. The process began by the will of God. It will continue at the pace which God wills. 추구는 신의 은총에 의해 일어난다. 신의 의지에 의해 그 추구하는 과정이 시작되었다. 신의 의지를 향한 그 걸음은 계속될 것이다. Ramesh says, When you pray to God to hasten the process you accept the fact that hastening the process is truly not in your hands. 라메쉬는 말한다. 추구의 과정을 단축시켜 달라고 당신이 신에게 기도할 때 그 과정을 단축하는 것은 당신의 손에 달린 것이 아니라는 사실을 진정으로 당신은 받아들여야 한다.
146 Ego is created by God as part of Divine Hypnosis. 에고는 신성한 최면의 일부로서 신에 의해 창조된 것이다. The annihilation of the ego is not in the seeker's hands. 에고의 소멸은 구도자의 손에 달린 것이 아니다. You are unhappy when the ego comes back because you think you should be able to do something about it. 에고가 복귀하면 당신은 불행해진다. 그것은 당신이 에고의 소멸에 대해 뭔가를 할 수가 있을 것이라고 생각하기 때문이다. Arising of the ego is a natural process. Let the ego come back. 에고가 일어나는 것은 자연스러운 과정이다. 에고가 복귀하거나 말거나 내버려 두라. Unhappiness arises when you want to control the ego. 불행은 당신이 에고를 통제하기 원하는데 그 이유가 있다. When you accept the ego instead of fighting it where is the unhappiness? 에고와 싸우는 대신 에고를 받아들인다면 어디에 불행이 존재할 있을 수 있을까? When you accept the ego you are actually surrendering to That power which has created the ego. 에고를 받아들인다는 것은 실제로는 에고를 창조한 신성한 그 힘에 대해 당신을 넘겨준다는 것이다. It means you have surrendered the ego itself. 이 말은 당신이 에고 그자체를 포기했다는 뜻이기도 하다. You say, Alright God, do whatever you like. If you want the ego to come again and again, let it happen. 그럴 때 당신은 말할 것이다. '신이여, 좋습니다. 뭐든 당신 마음대로 하십시오. 에고가 다시 오게하기를 당신이 원하신다면 얼마든지 그렇게 하십시오.' 라고 Ramesh says, Accept that nothing is in your control. Until this understanding becomes total the ego will come up again and again. 라메쉬는 말한다. 존재하지 않는 것을 받아들이는 일은 당신의 손에 매인 것. 이러한 이해가 전체적인 것이 되기 전까지 에고는 거듭 거듭 다시 오리라. 147 You are dissatisfied because you do not truly accept that you can do nothing. 당신이 만족하지 못하는 것은 당신이 할 수 있는 일이란 아무 것도 없다는 것을 받아들이지 못하기 때문이다. You think you can do something. 당신은 당신이 무엇인가를 할 수 있다고 생각하고 있다. You want to know what is that which you can do. 당신은 당신이 할 수 있는 일이 무엇인지 알기를 원하고 있다. When you truly accept that nothing is in your control, that everything is in God's control, what will you do? 모든 것은 신의 통제하에 있기에 당신의 통제하에 있는 것은 아무 것도 없다는 것을 당신이 진정으로 받아들일 때 당신이 무엇을 할 수 있단 말인가? You accept whatever God does through the bodymind organism without saying they are your actions. 그럴 때 당신은 신이 무엇을 행하든 그 일들이 당신의 행위라 말하는 법 없이 몸과 마음이라는 신체기관을 통해 당신은 받아들이게 된다. You do not exist as a separate individual. 그리하여 당신은 분리된 개체로서 존재하지 않게 된다. The "me" can only die if there is total acceptance that you do not exist as the doer. '나라는 에고'를 죽일 수 있는 방법은 오직 당신이 행위자로 존재하지 않고서 전적인 수락의 상태로 있을 때이다. What can you do to bring about total understanding? 전적인 이해에 대해 당신이 더이상 무엇을 더할 수 있단 말인가? Nothing, because you don't exist. 아무 것도 없다. 왜냐하면 당신은 존재하지 않기에. You can only understand the teaching intellectually. 당신은 이 가르침을 오직 지적으로 이해할 수 있을 뿐이다. To what extent that will help you to live your life without the sense of personal doership is not in your hands. 개인적인 행위자란 느낌없이 당신의 삶을 살아가는 것은 당신 손에 달린 일은 아니지만 그 무엇이든 대부분 당신에게 도움이 될 것이다. It is God's will. Let Him do whatever He wants. 그것이 신의 의지이다. 신께서 그 무엇이든 그 분이 원하시는 바대로 행하게 허용하라. You can only wait without expectations. 당신은 오직 기대함이 없이 기다릴 수 있을 뿐이다. The final acceptance is the acceptance of the inability to surrender. What happens when the sense of personal doership disappears totally? 궁극적인 수락은 순복을 통해 자신의 무능력함을 받아들이는 일이다. 개인적인 행위자라는 느낌이 완전히 사라지면 어떤 일이 일어나는가? Ramesh says, Whatever happens is merely witnessed without wanting to change it. 라메쉬는 말한다. 무슨 일이 일어나더라도 다만 느끼기만 하라. 그 일을 바꾸려는 바램 없이.
148 If you accept that manifestation is Consciousness in action where do you figure in? 만일 당신이 드러난 것은 행위 속의 의식이라는 것을 받아들인다면 당신은 어디에 그 모습을 드러낼 것인가? Have you accepted intellectually that Consciousness is functioning through the billions of bodymind organisms? 당신은 의식이란 몸과 마음이라는 수십억의 신체기관을 통한 작용이라는 것을 지적으로 받아들였는가? You are really fictitious. 진정 당신은 가공의 인물인 것이다. The fiction is created by Consciousness. 그 소설은 의식에 의해 창조된 것이다. If you think "you" are searching, "you" are making the effort, there will be confusion, frustration and unhappiness. 만일 당신이 추구하고 있다고 생각한다면 당신은 일을 만들어 내고 있는 것이다. 거기에 혼란이 있고, 좌절이 있고 불행이 있게 되는 것이다. If you accept that effort happens, whatever the consequences, unhappiness or frustration will not arise. There is no individual doer. 만일 당신이 그 결과야 어떻든간에 일이 일어나는 것을 그냥 받아들인다면 불행도 혼란도 일어나지 않을 것이다. 거기에는 행위자로서의 개체란 존재하지 않기에. Ramesh says, If you accept whatever happens as God's will life will be simple. Then, when any question arises THE ANSWER will follow it. 라메쉬는 말한다. 만일 일어나는 일은 그 무엇이든 신의 의지라 받아들인다면 삶은 단순해 질 것이다. 그때는, 어떤 의문이 일면 그 해답도 곧 따라 올 것이다. 149 Observing is done by identified Consciousness. 관찰은 신성한 의식을 확신함에 의해 끝난다. The one asking questions is the observer. 질문을 하는 자가 관찰자이다. When impersonal witnessing happens there is no judging. 객관적인 주시함이 일어나면 거기에는 분별할 것은 아무 것도 없다. There is no one to be happy or unhappy. 거기에는 행복한 사람도 불행한 사람도 없다. The individual, observing and judging and being happy or unhappy is part of 'What Is'. 개체라는 것도, 관찰과 판단이라는 것도 그리고 행복하고 행복하지 않은 것도 있는 그대로의 일부분인 것이다. Happiness or unhappiness arises when you observe and say, "I like it or I don't like it". 행복과 불행은 '나는 그것이 좋아, 나는 그것이 싫어' 라고 말하고 보는 데서 일어난다. The Sage does not see himself or anyone else as the doer. 성자는 그 자신을 포함한 그 누구를 막론하고 행위자로서 보지 않는다. Whatever anybody does is accepted as God's action. All that is observed is accepted as the will of God. 누가 무엇을 행하든 신의 행위로 받아들이고 눈에 보이는 모든 것을 신의 의지로 받아들인다. Any reaction of the brain is merely witnessed. The reaction of some other bodymind organism is also merely witnessed or accepted as the will of God. 그 어떤 두뇌의 반응도 단지 주시된 것에 불과하고 다른 몸과 마음이라는 신체기관의 어떠한 반응도 단지 주시된 것이거나 신의 의지로서 받아들인다. The sense of personal doership is the involvement with the reaction of the brain. 자신이 개인적인 행위자라는 감각은 두뇌의 반응에 휩쓸리는 일인 것이다. Ramesh says, If unhappiness is accepted as God's will there won't be a "me" to get involved with it. 라메쉬는 말한다. 만일 불행을 신의 의지라고 받아들였다면 불행에 말려들 '나'라는 사람도 없었을 것이다.
150 Enlightenment is just a word. 깨달음이란 단지 말에 불과하다. What is the human being looking for? 인간이라는 존재가 바라는 것은 무엇인가? Peace, isn't it? 평화, 바로 그것이 아닌가? "Why does God give peace and contentment to some and not to others?" 왜 신은 어떤 이에게는 평화와 만족을 가져다 주고 어떤 이에게는 그렇지 하지 않는가? You can only accept God's will. 당신은 오직 신의 의지를 받아들 일 수 있을 뿐이다. The mind cannot understand the will of God. 마음은 신의 의지를 이해하지 못한다. In the Sage what is absent is the sense of personal doership. 성자 속에 결여되어 있는 것은 자신이 행위자라는 개인적인 감정이다. What is present is the total acceptance that what happens through any bodymind organism is God's action. 현재라는 것은 무슨 일이 일어나든 몸과 마음이라는 어떤 신체기관을 통해 신의 행위를 전적으로 받아들이는 것이다. Peace can happen only when the sense of personal doership is lost. 평화는 오직 내가 행위자라는 개인적인 감정이 사라졌을 때 일어나는 것이다. When is the sense of personal doership lost? 언제 자신이 행위자라는 개인적인 감정이 사라지는가? When you truly understand that you have no free will. 그것은 당신에게 자유의지란 전혀 없다는 것을 당신이 진정으로 이해했을 때인 것이다. Why does the feeling of doership get back? Because you think you are in control. 왜 행위에 애착하는 감정이 되돌아오는가? 그것은 당신이 통제 속에 있다고 생각하기 때문이다. Ramesh says, When you truly understand that you don't live your life, that your life is being lived by God or Consciousness, the sense of personal doership is lost forever. 라메쉬는 말한다. 당신의 삶을 당신이 사는 것이 아님을 진정으로 이해할 때 당신의 삶은 신 혹은 신성한 의식에 의해 존재하는 삶이 될 것이며. 자신이 행위자라는 개인적인 감각은 영원히 사라질 것이다.

Have you visited Ramesh's beauty parlour? If not, please do. Enter His house and sit in His presence. You are made beautiful, you have no choice. How does He do that? God only knows. God gave Him that job, not me. The thinking mind poses as the doer. He is impatient with it and lovingly patient with the working mind. So, who wins? The working mind of course. There is one hitch, friends. You can't go to His parlour at "your" will. No amount of money or power can take you there. It is only God's will that can take you there. In Divine confusion I asked the Lord to take me. He said, "go to Ramesh". I went to Him and said, "Master, make me your disciple". He said, "Sure, but the "me" is still there". I accepted it. Place the ego at His feet and look the other way. Don't go to check if it is dead. It'll pretend and fool you. He neither sells concepts nor does He promise the Heavens. He says, nothing is in your hands. If you accept that totally, and that is not in your hands, consider the work done. No stain of guilt or pride, enmity or frustration remains. You will then remember the poet's words, "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder." The End |
