This in from Yonhap:

SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. soldier was being questioned by South Korean police on Sunday on allegations of raping and beating a local woman in her late sixties.

The police sought an arrest warrant for the 23-year-old GI, who was only identified by his initial G.

The soldier allegedly punched the 67-year-old woman in the face and raped her in a narrow path of a residential area in western Seoul around 6 a.m. Sunday, according to police investigators.

Police officers who were patrolling the area heard the woman scream, ran to the scene and caught the soldier as he tried to escape, they said. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with an injury that was not life threatening, they said.

The man identified himself as a member of the United States Forces Korea (USFK), but otherwise exercised his right to remain silent. After legal officers of the U.S. military arrived, he began to cooperate with the probe, the police said.

Major General John Morgan, acting commander of the 8th U.S. Army here, issued an official apology, representing Washington's awareness of the explosiveness of such an incident in the Asian nation.

[. . . .]

South Korea has jurisdiction over U.S. servicemembers suspected of committing major crimes, such as murder and sexual assault, while not on official duty.

The U.S. forces have been quick to react to crimes or accidents involving its servicemembers here since a 2002 accident in which two South Korean schoolgirls were run over and killed by a U.S. military armored vehicle, leading to a series of protest rallies and candlelight vigils throughout the nation.

Oh boy. What can you say to this lady and her family. That guy, if found guilty, must get the max.
