Tom G's post on Robot Taekwon V over at Darcy's Koreanfilm.org BBS:
The Taekwon V series is probably the best known, and best loved, animation in Korea. Bitwin released a set of DVD's containing the 1976, 1982 and 1984 Taekwon V movies which unfortunately are without subtitles. These movies provide an interesting perspective on the history of Korean animation and the changes that occurred between the 70's and the 80's. Now, I could count the number of anime I have seen on one hand, so I cannot tell you how the art or stories compare to Vampire-Voltran-Hunter-D or Princess Monoke-Pokeomon. But I can say that the stories are enjoyable--especially the original '76 version.
1976: The origins of Taekwon V are revealed as the tormented Dr Cops, bent on revenge against the world that mocked him, creates an army of giant robots to kidnap world class athletes and destroy society. Onl y the superior intellect of Dr Kim is able to challenge the fiendish plot with the creation of his own giant robot--Taekwon V.
