Web Site for Late Poet Chung Ji-yong Begins Foreign Language Services
The "Cyber Hall of Chung Ji-yong Literature (
website)," managed by the government of Okcheon County in North Chungcheong Province, has begun services in English, Japanese and Chinese in addition to Hangul.
According to the county, the county government on Feb. 2 began services in three foreign languages, including English, on the Web site of the late poet Chung Ji-yong (鄭芝溶.1902-1950), the author of the famous poem "Nostalgia." The Web site was reinforced with more content with the purpose of developing it as an international literary cyber-library, as well as helping Web users appreciate the late poet's world of literature.
The Web site is introducing about 200 of Chung's poems and essays in Hangul and foreign languages. It also carries photos of various places such as his birthplace (Hagye-li, Okcheon-up, Okcheon County) and the Hall of Chung Ji-yong Literature, PR videos, and cartoons on his life.
Visitors can listen to his poems as recited by famous voice actors and actresses through a virtual-reality system. The Web site also has a cyber poetry school managed by the "Ji-yong Society," a fraternity of men of letters, and an Internet broadcasting system.
A county official said, "We have begun multilingual services in keeping with the active research on the late poet Chung at home and abroad. We hope this site will serve as a channel for the wide publicity of the poet."
After it opened in July 2003, the Web site was chosen as a recommended Internet site by the Information Communication Ethics Committee the following year. It is visited by an average of about 80,000 Web users every year.
