언니 떡분에 제주도에 갈 수 있었어요. She not only booked the flight for me but also allowed Osuke, whom she has never met before, to join in and stay at her parents’ place. We arrived in Jeju on Tuesday 18th October in the late afternoon, left the kids behind and sneaked out to 용두암 and walked along the coast till we were hungry. Dinner was Korean style sashimi (갈치?) washed down with wine (qing河)

It was dark and my shot of 용두암 can’t be seen but here’s a picture of the entrance leading to the lookout platform. Why are the stone creatures linked to fertility ?

The next morning, 언니의 어머님은 일찍에 큰 아침을 벌써 준비하셨어요. 정말 맛있었어요. 좀 봐 ...부럽죠?

After the hearty breakfast, we set off, 3 adults and 3 children in her dad’s car, for several sightseeing spots.
First stop was the산굼부리분화구 Sangumburi Crater where I saw lots of억세풀 for the first time.

We visited 2 drama film sites; 섭지코지 where the drama, All In was filmed and Jeju Folklore Village 제주민속촌 where the drama, Jewel in the Palace 대장금 was filmed.

Lunch was bibimbap at the Herb Garden.

Last stop for the day was Sinyeong Jeju Movie Museum 신영제주영화박물관. Dinner was the spicy but hearty stewed pork ribs 뼈다귀찜. 언니’s younger daughter found it too spicy but she was repeatedly asking for kimchi. It struck me that she’s a true blue Korean - asking for kimchi, although she refusing spicy food.
Breakfast on the 2nd morning was even more lavish with 성게미역국 and 낙지볶음.
외둘개. A lone solitary figure ... waiting in perpertuity.

정방푹포 Jeongbang Falls. Only waterfall to flow directly into the sea.

산방산 Legend has it that this Grotto Temple was formed from the top that was blown off Mt Halla. By the time I walked all the way to the top, I was so tired that I forgot to take a picture. This photo was taken on the way up, not even half way up yet.

I also learnt from언니 that Korean Airlines uses Jeju water. At many places we visited in Jeju and even along certain stretches of the coast, neatly stacked up piles of stones could be seen, the creation of people who had been making wishes.
I need to returnt o Jeju Island another time because Mt Halla was being 'rested' when I was there.
When I returned to Seoul, my last dinner was finally 감자탕 ! Thank you Misty !
