The Listening section was not the easiest compared with past years'.
I didn't understand the audio on 주영장 and 모자가게. And the one on broadcast annoucement for 아파트 주이들 was also terrible, from what I heard I guessed it was announcing that there would be no water supply for certain hours/days but I still didn't know which 1 of the 4 answers was correct. Sigh !

Under exam conditions, I could not remember which is the equivalent of 언제나? Is it 항상 or 자주 ?

I hated a particular question, which from my recollection was :
A: 지금 좀 (          ) ?
Of the 4 answers, the 2 most likely ones were 바쁘세요 and 한가하세요.
I chose

And there was a short one paragraph about living in a hostel. What in the world is (   ) 얼마 안 돼 ...
I chose the answer 지오 지  by way of 'tikam', a word 동생 had been using a lot in the days running up to today.
And the 2nd question on this same passage required writing out the answer, the hint was xxx (친절하다) 해...
I think the text for xxx was 우리한테. I simply wrote '친절하게'.

Can any Korean make sense of what I've beem rambling above ?

HsiaoKongLong 2005.09.26  01:02

One of the purposes of taking a test is to get improved, so I hope you learned some new stuff today.
언제나 is usually equivalent to 항상.
This is tough. It seems like either one can be used in this situation.
Now, take some rest and have a good night.

언제나 is same as 항상, which means "always" or "all the time"...
자주 means "often" or "frequently"...

바쁘세요 or 한가하세요?...Not enough information to answer correctly...

huangsy88 2005.09.26  11:08

What does 지은 지 얼마 안 돼 mean ?
I guessed the answer was 바쁘세요 because B replied Nae (yes)....

HsiaoKongLong 2005.09.26  13:19

(It was) built not long ago. (i.e., built recently.)

If B replied "네, 전에 바쁘지만 지금 괜찮아요", A must have asked "지금 좀 한가하세요?".

Because of the "네" that's why i answered 한가해요. Translate to English:-> "Are you free now?" "Yes (I am free now), I was busy earlier but I am free now"
The other one I think it is about 언니 always carry a smile, the equivalent of 언제나 to me is 항상.

The one on "지은지" really killed a lot of my brain cell so I decided to give it a shot because the other 3 couldnt make sense. I had only learnt "ㄴ 지" combining with "돼요". But in this case it was "안 돼요". I only figured out after the exam that that sentence meant "This house was not long since it was first built so it is clean".
As for the one on "친절하다", I also put "친절하게" mainly because of the word "해" following it so 칠절하다 must have meant to be an adverb.

One more wrong ! Huh ? Got ㄴ 지 돼요 pattern ?

There is one which ask us to identify the location of the lady. I think I heared something about "열차...한걸음...뛰지마십시요", so I chose "열차안". The other 3 choices were 버스점, 버스 터미널, 치하절. Corean conquerer, what was your choice for this one?

osukhe 2005.09.26  15:01  [221.146.124.191]

As for the one on 아파트, i think the correct answer is "No water on 21st" "21일 물 안 나울거에요" something like that. The other 3 were incorrect I think.

Actually the 2nd question of listening is a giveaway, don't you think? "옛날" can be found in the later part of the reading section. So for those who can't write still can refer to the back page.

huangsy88 2005.09.26  15:24

OMG, Corean Conquerer ! Yucks !
I also chose
The 아파트 one, I chose one of the 3 wrong ones bec I just didn't know what the broadcast was all about. I thought I heard an 'until" but cud not catch whether it was in terms of days or hours (the 4th answer was related to hours). Yup, 옛날 was a giveway but I forgot how to spell "graduate".

If you insist to carry
Way to go!

There is one question about 눈물 나요 or 와요. I have just confirmed with my colleague that is should be 나요.

Can anyone remember the last 10 questions of the reading section? I had poor time management so I was left with only 20 mins to rush thru the last 10 questions + had to transfer the answers of the 60 answers to the answer sheet. So I couldnt remember too clearly. I can only remember 2 :
1) 물건을 살는사람 another name for this is --> My Ans: 고객
2) What is the occupation of the lady who likes children very much and who wants to be a doctor -->

huangsy88 2005.09.27  12:15

For (1), I wrote 손님 because those 2 words appeared in the next sentence of that passage.
For (2), I chose 강호사 because she currently works in a hospital although her dream was to be a teacher.

I was tricked by the 눈물 question too ! I chose 울어요.

I agree with the above view about our friend's passion for Korean language. As a friend who witness her efficiency and committment in setting up this website, I have no doubt that if our dear friend get to be immersed in the country itself, her improvement will be by leaps and bound.

I am also a beneficiary of her magnimosity in sharing with me many things which of course Korean-related is one of the greatest. And because of her unselfishness and her encouragement, I took this exam which I would have otherwise given it a miss. FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, THANK YOU! my friend.

Without looking up the dictionary, I understand what you wrote to mean :
SY, bec exams are over, probably (heart) feel at ease.
exam is not (어른?) .. a burden
For the sake of SY's aspiring Korean ability, must write in Korean (to you)

Actually for the 눈물one I was debating veryhard between 나요 and 와요. Both sounds equally possible although I have heared of none being used so far. Only heared of 눈물 흘어요. Ultimately I'd decided to bet on 나요.

I was "kiasu" so actually I wrote "고객, 손님". Hope they do not deduct my marks for being kiasu. hihi

huangsy88 2005.09.27  12:30

For the 눈물 문제, if I had not been so fixated by the 스픈 영화 bit at the beginning of the question and tricked to choose 울어요, as bet 나요 and 와요, I wud have chosen 나요. Sigh ! Another one wrong !

huangsy88 2005.09.27  12:31

Smartie, I don't think they will deduct marks bec both are corect answers.

osukhe 2005.09.27  12:32  [221.146.124.191]

Oops now that you say it, I am confused now whether i chose 선생님 or 간호사. I vaguely remembered that her occupation is not what she had wanted to be. What do you expect from an answer made in split second.

Hi for the "ㄴ지..되다" pattern, as you know i pop by my next door library on and off so after seeing this pattern appearing so often in that preparatory book, i'd decided to look it up in the library. I'll fwd you some stuff on this.

huangsy88 2005.09.27  12:41

I didn't even realise this pattern appeared in the L2 prep book. I did pick up other grammar patterns tho. I may post them up for completeness.
After that, you could post the one for "ㄴ지..되다" pattern under that post.
