About 3G Cyberport
Initiate by Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) with the support from OGCIO of The Government of the HKSAR, Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited and the four 3G license owned Mobile Network Operators (3 Hong Kong , CSL, SmarTone, SUNDAY), a 3G Cyberport project starting Oct 2004 has been implemented at Cyberport.
This one and a half year project is in line with the direction of Digital 21 Strategy and the explosive development of 3G technology and infrastructure in telecom industry of Hong Kong to capture the market niche in Asia Pacific and inherit advantages of Hong Kong to determine a golden opportunity ahead in boosting the commonality; applications and content development of 3G services and contents.
The project consists of three core components. Newly developed 3G applications in industry-recognized Award Scheme will be showcased at HKWDC to illustrate HK as a 3G creator; a series of 3G Developer Training and Workshops inviting overseas and local 3G pioneers to cultivate local 3G professionals. Certainly, it is significant to develop a critical mass by the collaboration of all parties to visualize, commercialize and promote the 3G data applications to general public, wherever at Cyberport or anywhere in Hong Kong . Thus, we join forces with Cyberport and 3G license owned network operators to conduct a series of publicity and promotion campaigns to promote the project and the awarded 3G applications and services.
The project is coping with the vision to facilitate HK as the Asia Hub of wireless and mobile development.
Each set of innovative 3G applications in specific categories will be awarded through the process of RFP. The 3G applications focus on rich content to serve the needs of different target groups like visitors, tenants and residents in the Cyberport. The innovative 3G applications should deliver through video and graphic-intensive applications, like video streaming, 3D mapping guides, floor plan directories, on-the-spot (location based) or on-demand promotional activities with beautiful pictures, photos and models, on-line interactive gaming, on-line reading (especially those with attractive graphic elements), on-line data capture (digital pen and digital photo) etc.
